The pattern that identifies the culprit fast
Taste bad in the first glass only: stale line water. Bad in water but not from the kitchen tap: fridge-side (causes 1-5). Bad from every tap in the house: source water (cause 6). How long should a new filter taste “new”?
After a proper 2-4 gallon flush, the slight carbon note disappears within a day of normal use. Persisting beyond that points to causes 2-6 above.
Could my water softener be involved?
