everydrop Filter A (EDRARXD1) vs Filter 1 (EDR1RXD1): What’s Actually Different?

Quick answer: everydrop Filter A (EDRARXD1) and Filter 1 (EDR1RXD1) are different cartridges for different housings, and they do not interchange. Filter 1 serves Whirlpool-family french-door and bottom-mount fridges from roughly 2014 onward (upper-left interior, quarter-turn). Filter A is the newer designation used by recent side-by-side models. The letter A does not mean an upgrade of Filter 1: it is a different fit.

The only reliable check: the old cartridge label

Whirlpool’s lettered and numbered filters look confusingly similar in photos, and fridge age alone is not conclusive because both lines shipped in parallel. The label on the cartridge you are removing settles it: it prints the EDR code directly. No cartridge in hand? Photograph the sticker inside the fridge door and run it through the free photo matcher, or check the fridge model number against the compatibility list on each product page.

My fridge manual says “everydrop Filter A” but stores keep showing me Filter 1. Why?

Filter 1 is the bigger seller, so search results favor it. Trust the manual and the cartridge label over search suggestions: if either says A or EDRARXD1, order the A format.

Can I force a Filter 1 into a Filter A housing?

No. The mounts differ by design; forcing risks cracking the housing and leaking. If a cartridge does not seat with light pressure and a smooth quarter turn, it is the wrong filter.
