The fastest way to find the right filter: read the one you already have
The simplest and most reliable method for finding your refrigerator water filter model number is to pull out the existing filter and read the label. But if that’s not an option — or if the label is worn — here are brand-specific methods that work every time.
Method 1: read the current filter label (works for any brand)
- Open your refrigerator and locate the filter compartment — usually upper-right interior, lower-left interior, or bottom grille.
- Pull the filter out by twisting counterclockwise or pressing the release button.
- Look at the sticker on the filter. It will show the primary part number (e.g., LT1000P, DA29-00020B, MWF) and often a list of compatible part numbers.
- Search that number on our site or browse by brand to find your replacement.
Method 2: check the refrigerator model number
Every refrigerator has a model number on a sticker inside the door frame or on the back of the unit. Once you have the fridge model number, you can find compatible filters by searching “[brand] [fridge model] water filter” online.

What if there’s no filter at all?
Some fridges come with a bypass plug installed instead of a filter. If you see a small plastic cap where the filter should be, your fridge does have a filter housing — it’s just not being used. Pull out the bypass plug and note the housing shape to identify which filter fits. Check your owner’s manual for the compatible filter model.
