The GE FQK1K water filter is the original GE cartridge for GE single-stage and in-line drinking water systems, in its original GE packaging. However, GE no longer manufactures it, so our remaining stock is limited.

Why replace it every 6 months

The cartridge slowly fills with the particles and chemicals it removes. After about six months, therefore, it filters less and the water flow can drop. In addition, GE lists this cartridge as certified to NSF/ANSI 42, 53 and 401.

How to replace the GE FQK1K water filter

1. First, turn off the water supply to the filtration system and place a towel under the housing.
2. Next, twist the old cartridge counterclockwise and pull it out.
3. Then push the new cartridge in and twist it clockwise until it stops.
4. Finally, turn the water back on, check for leaks and run the faucet for a few minutes.

Tips for single-stage systems

Keep a towel under the housing, because a little water always drips out during a change. Also, run the faucet for a few minutes after the change, so air and loose carbon leave the line. Finally, check the connection again the next morning for any slow leak.
